Event Alert: YPT Leadership Seminar featuring Beth Osborne, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy @USDOT

YPT’s Leadership Seminars are a great way to meet and interact with distinguished leaders in the transportation field. Participants are encouraged to ask questions about the speakers’ work, career path, and for advice to today’s young professionals. YPT is proud to announce that Beth Osborne, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy at USDOT, will headline the next Leadership Seminar.

When:

Thursday, 16 September 2010 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM

Attendees should plan on arriving no later than 5:15pm at the West Building Main Lobby near the corner of M Street and New Jersey Avenue SE. Upon arrival, participants will be escorted to the conference room in groups

Metro: The USDOT building is located directly across the Navy Yard Metro Station along the Green Line.

RSVP: Please submit your RSVPs for the event by no later than COB Monday 13 September.  To RSVP, simply email ypt@transportation.orgwith “Beth Osborne Seminar” in the subject field and your name in the body of the email (Due to USDOT security procedures, pre-registration is required.  Be sure to include your complete name in your RSVP. Please bring photo identification with you to the event).

Beth Osborne will discuss the current USDOT policy and vision for transportation, in particular, the concept of livability and its relevance to the YPT audience.  She is also expected to offer career development advice to young professionals starting out in the transportation field.

Speaker Bio:

Elizabeth D. (Beth) Osborne is Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy at USDOT where she is currently working on the surface transportation reauthorization, the Secretary’s livability initiative as well as safety and environment issues. Beth comes to USDOT from the office of Sen. Tom Carper (DE), where she was his legislative assistant for transportation, trade and labor policy. Previously, Beth worked as the legislative director for  environmental policy at the Southern Governors’ Association and as policy director for Smart Growth America. She began her career in Washington, DC, in the House of Representatives working as a legislative assistant for Rep. Ron Klink (PA-04) and as legislative director for Rep. Brian Baird (WA-03). Beth grew up in New Orleans and graduated with a B.A. and J.D. from Louisiana State University.

*- Participants are requested to arrive no later than 5:15pm at the USDOT West Building Main Lobby to ensure entry.  Once you clear the security procedures, you will be escorted to the conference room in groups

**- After the Leadership Seminar, please join your fellow YPT members for an informal happy hour at Justin’s Cafe, located just a block away from the USDOT Building at 1025 First St SE, Washington, DC 20003 (Ground Floor of Velocity Condos).
