Position Description

The general purpose of this position is to conduct research in traffic engineering and/or planning areas. The essential duties of the job include developing and researching the effectiveness of innovative solutions to traditional and emerging transportation issues. Responsibilities include: assistance with proposal preparation, research plan, task development, experimental design, data collection, data analysis, report preparation and research presentations. Supervision of staff and students may be required on a task-by-task basis. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

Position Requirements

Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent discipline with specialty in transportation engineering (Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of experience). Knowledge or interest in at least one of the following focus areas is required: HCM, MUTCD, operational analysis, planning, statistical design, safety analysis techniques, and research techniques. Good engineering judgment and a high degree of technical competence. Demonstrate the ability to work independently. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as it applies to research project needs.

Prefer a Master’s Degree with a transportation emphasis. Prefer experience conducting and publishing related research. Previous field work with equipment related to research data collection activities, GIS and/or simulation experience. Prefer registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) in the State of Texas
