Recovery & Resiliency Fellows – Introduction
MTA NYC Transit is the largest public sector transportation organization in North America. Join Subways in major efforts to recover and come back even stronger from Super Storm Sandy, the most devastating event Subways has experienced in its 109 year history.
We are recruiting for two additional Recovery and Resiliency Fellows to join the new Recovery & Resiliency group which reports to the Senior Vice President of Subways as described below. This group exists to facilitate rapid delivery, maximize value, minimize customer and operational impact, and ensure transparency and accountability of our multi-billion dollar investment program to recover from Sandy and mitigate future extreme events. Work in this group includes developing and implementing strategy and providing analytical, coordination, and project management services to various divisions within the Department of Subways and to a limited degree other capital planning and program management departments.

Recovery & Resiliency Fellow – Generalist Position
Specific activities could include developing and populating innovative reporting and transparency tools, developing strategies and tools to mitigate customer impact of the investment program, authoring capital project proposals and master plans, and evaluating and prioritizing individual projects within the investment program.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong analytical and quantitative ability.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other analytical and communications tools.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work and deliver under demanding timelines.
- Understanding of transportation and engineering concepts.

Recovery & Resiliency Fellow – Technical Position
This position in particular is intended to add technical and technology development capabilities to the group in support of its purpose and mission.
Specific activities could include:
- Development of tools for tracking and reporting on assets and projects in the investment program.
- Prototyping and development of web-based standards-based mapping applications
- Prototyping and development of operational asset damage/status tools and dashboards for use during and after major weather events.
- Prototyping of innovative underground wireless networking and asset/personnel management solutions
- Prototyping tools for publishing customer-facing information relating to the investment program.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Software development in multiple languages
- Fluency in learning new programming languages, tools, frameworks, standards, etc.
- Working knowledge of wired and wireless IP networking
- Familiarity with agile/iterative design/development/documentation processes
- Strong analytical and quantitative ability
- Familiarity with MS Excel, Access, PowerPoint, GIS and other analytical and communications tools.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work and deliver under demanding timelines.
- Understanding of transportation and operations concepts

General Requirements (Both Positions)
- Master’s degree from an accredited college in business administration, public administration public policy, engineering, economics, architecture, math, physics, computer science, accounting, transportation planning or urban planning and two years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in an analytical or technical capacity. One year must have been in the mass transportation industry; or
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, engineering, engineering technology, economics, architecture, math, physics, computer science, accounting or urban planning, and three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in “1” above. One year of this experience must have been in the mass transportation industry.
- A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
