DC Area Event Alert: Transportation Techies Meetup

This is a Transportation Techies meetup group event in the DC Area and their next meeting is about ‘Cool Mobility Apps’.  It’s on Thursday, October 2 @6pm. More details here.

What’s on the agenda:

For October, we’ll be discussing four tech projects and their impact on local transportation issues. Doors open at 6:00 with pizza and drinks, and the presentations start at 6:30.

• Trevor Gerhardt of Conveyal will show us their Transit Tech Initiative with Arlington County, specifically the “evaluating a commute” portion of the program.

• Eric Meyer will tell us about the Baltimore-based Haystack mobile app, which lets people buy and sell street-side parking spaces.

• Chase Donnelly and Peter Mazzeo will demo their new Boontrek app, which creates a community marketplace for ride sharing.

• Peter Shashkin and Vitaliy Fedonkin from EastBanc Technologies will show us TransitIQ, which analyzes transit data, detecting anomalies, bus bunching, and more. EastBanc works with SmarTrip cards and is the company behind developer.wmata.com.

The main line was completed in 1923 after 9 years of construction; President Warren G. Harding traveled to Alaska for the occasion and personally drove in the Golden Spike to finish the job. In 1943, the Railroad completed a 12-mile spur to the tiny port town of Whittier. In total, the Alaska Railroad provides regularly scheduled passenger service along 482 miles of track – an expanse greater than the distance between #Boston and #Washington, D.C. #friday #trains #transportation Check this amazing #sunset shot, shared by our equally amazing Director of Chapter Development @wbybanana.
