Job Alert: Traffic Demand Modeler Positions in Fort Lauderdale, Chicago and Oakland

Cambridge Systematics is filling three Travel Demand Modeler positions (Junior and Mid-Level) in Fort Lauderdale, Chicago and Oakland (job numbers 000322, 000462 and 000463) to their Travel Demand Forecasting team.

The Modeling or Travel Demand Forecasting (TDF) business line works to research, develop, and apply innovative and practical decision support tools, including transportation models. Their practice is built on a foundation of expert skills, quality assurance, customer service and effective teamwork. They successfully leverage a variety of planning, engineering, market research, statistical analysis, visualization and software development and application techniques to provide insights into existing conditions and problems, forecast alternative outcomes, and explain complex traveler (and consumer) behavior mechanisms.

Junior Position Description:

The Travel Demand Modeler provides support to market research, model development and application (four-step and activity-based models), quantitative analysis, statistical analysis, geographic information system (GIS) projects and network development. S/he also contributes to business development and project management activities, as assigned.

Position Requirements, Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree. 0 to 1 years experience
  • Knowledge of travel demand modeling, transportation planning applications, statistical analysis, GIS and model estimation techniques
  • Experience working with one or more of the major travel demand forecasting planning packages, statistical packages and GIS
  • Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Programming experience in GISDK, Cube/TP+, or other model scripting languages, or other programming languages
  • Strong oral and written communications skills

Mid-Level Position Description:

The mid-level Modeling Analyst will have the opportunity to develop and apply travel demand forecasting models, including both traditional and advance-practice frameworks. Other duties will include quantitative analysis, statistical analysis, geographic information system (GIS) projects and transportation network analysis. S/he also will contribute to business development and project management activities with clients.

S/he should be able to work well with clients and possess good interpersonal skills to represent the company, and be able to communicate complex, technical materials in clear, concise manner. S/he must have strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, as well as computer skills and good technical judgment. S/he must have the ability to manage a project on time, on budget and to client satisfaction.

Position Requirements, Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree. 5+ years experience
  • Knowledge of travel demand modeling, transportation planning applications, statistical analysis, GIS and model estimation techniques
  • Experience working with one or more of the major travel demand forecasting planning packages, statistical packages and GIS
  • Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Programming experience in Cube Voyager or other model scripting languages, or other programming languages
  • Strong oral and written communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Application experience with Florida Standard Urban Transportation Model Structure (FSUTMS), Tampa Bay Regional Planning Model, Treasure Coast Regional Planning Model (TCRPM), and/or Southeastern Florida Regional Planning Model (SERPM).
