NYC Job Alert: Special Projects Intern at NYCDOT

NYCDOT’s Special Projects unit seeks an intern to assist with a wide range of transportation planning projects. Special Projects operates within the Transportation Planning & Management division and manages neighborhood transportation studies, the Safe Routes to Transit program, transportation demand management programs, commuter vans, and other transportation studies. Special Projects is currently engaged in two major studies: the Washington Heights Neighborhood Transportation Study and Access to Opportunity, a transportation and housing study in the Eastern Rockaways. In addition to these initiatives, the intern will support NYCDOT’s two transportation demand management programs: Go Smart Personalized Travel Choice pilot program and the Drive Smart technology pilot. The intern will also contribute work to the Safe Routes to Transit program, which constructs sidewalk and bus stop improvements to reduce barriers to public transit in NYC.

The Special Projects intern will develop GIS maps, analyze safety and traffic data, prepare outreach materials, and participate in community outreach. The intern will create AutoCAD drawings and perform field surveys to determine existing street conditions. Depending on the skill set of the chosen candidate, the intern may perform traffic analysis using Synchro or HCS. The internship will provide the opportunities to become more proficient in planning tools and software.

The intern will play a significant role in major transportation studies with a unique focus on public space and quality of life. The internship will provide exposure to a wide range of transportation planning initiatives in New York City.

Skills Needed:  GIS, MS Excel, Writing, Adobe Creative Suite. AutoCAD and Synchro is preferred but not required.
