Deadline Extended: Nominations due September 30 for YPT International Board

Dear YPT Members and Friends,

Want to get more involved in determining the future of Young Professionals in Transportation?  YPT will be conducting elections to select the 2017-2018 YPT International Board of Directors.  If you would like to run for a Board of Directors position or vote in the election, please continue reading below.

Directors typically offer a time commitment of 1-2 hours per week.  Directors must be able to call into monthly Board of Directors meetings and may be asked to attend a yearly Board meeting.

Note: you will receive a similar email about elections for your local Chapter’s Board of Directors.

Nomination Process

Nominations for the nine Board of Director positions (described below) should be submitted by e-mail to YPT at info@yptransportation.org by September 30, 2017, 11:59 PM EST.  Please submit your name, title, organization, contact information, the position(s) for which you are seeking nomination, and a candidate statement (1 page or less) addressing why you would like to serve on the YPT International Board of Directors.  Please submit all of this information in a single PDF file.

Candidate and Voting Eligibility

In order to run for a YPT International Board of Directors position or vote in the elections you must already be or become a paid YPT Member by October 1, 2017, 11:59 PM EST by following this link:  https://my.yptransportation.org/join.  If you think you are already a Member but are unsure, you can check your membership status by logging into https://my.yptransportation.org.

Elections Process

  • October 2, 2017: All eligible voters will receive the full slate of candidate statements via email (there will also be a local chapter slate sent that day).
  • October 16, 2017:  Election ballots to be sent out by International to eligible voting Members for all Chapter and International elections at 9:00 AM EST.

  • October 27, 2017: Online elections close at 8:00 PM EST. International and Chapter board members and nominees will be notified of election results shortly thereafter.

Pending any runoff elections, the results will be made available to the YPT membership in early November.  The new Board term for all winning candidates will begin on November 1, 2017.

Leadership Positions

Elections will be held for the following YPT International Board of Directors positions.  Terms of office are one year, from November 1 to October 31.  There is no limit to the number of consecutive terms a Board Member may serve. Candidates may run for multiple positions.  If a candidate wins more than one position then that person may choose which position they would prefer to serve in.

Chair: The Chair serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the organization and serves as the official face of YPT International. The Chair is responsible for administering monthly board meetings, overseeing day-to-day implementation of the international by-laws, and supervising international board positions.

Deputy Chair: The Deputy Chair assists the Chair in administering the international board, sets up monthly board meetings, and conducts the subsequent year’s election process. In the absence of the Chair, the Deputy Chair acts in the official capacity of the Chair and performs all duties of that office.

Director of Administration: The Director of Administration records minutes for all monthly board meetings, oversees international awards and other major activities, and keeps accurate records of the organization.

Director of Communications: The Director of Communications manages YPT International’s social media pages, updates YPT International’s website, sends official YPT International e-mails, and compiles the annual report.

Director of Finance: The Director of Finance collects individual dues payments and redistributes to chapters, records and maintains accurate financial records, pays organization bills in a timely fashion, manages organization payment systems, seeks opportunities to best utilize existing financial resources, expands revenue streams, develops annual budget, and provides monthly updates to the International Board.

Director of Programs: The Director of Programs plans and oversees events in conjunction with major conferences, supports chapter programming (especially when major conferences are held near chapters), and coordinates events with the Director of Finance and the Director of Membership.

Director of Membership: The Director of Membership monitors YPT membership numbers, grants administration access to the Contact Relationship Management System (CiviCRM), sets up new chapters in database, removes duplicate membership from the membership database, and assists chapters in using CiviCRM.

Director of Chapter Development: The Director of Chapter Development communicates with local chapter leadership, holds monthly chapter calls, supports interested individuals in establishing new YPT chapters, assists chapters with day-to-day chapter management, monitors chapters with low or changing membership numbers, and serves as a liaison between chapter leadership and International Directors.

Director of Sponsorship: The Director of Sponsorship solicits and maintains international sponsors, administers and keeps up-to-date sponsorship levels, and provides accurate sponsorship information to the Director of Finance for budget planning.
