Transportation Planner II

Conducts and prepares studies associated with the county’s Residential Traffic Administration Program (RTAP), including the traffic calming, cut-through, enhanced speeding penalty and truck restriction programs. Reviews requests to modify traffic operations, prepares analyses on these and other traffic engineering issues, and coordinates with the Virginia Department of Transportation, Board of Supervisors, and county police and fire departments. Attends meetings with civic associations and other regional agencies. Prepares correspondence and gives presentations to Board of Supervisors. Maintains databases and performs other transportation-related duties as required. Performs related field work.Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field; plus two years of professional experience in civil engineering, urban, regional or transportation planning, or a closely related field.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver’s license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Thorough knowledge of the principles and methods of traffic engineering and analysis. Two years of GIS experience. Some experience with computer graphics software..
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Must communicate with others. Employee may be required to lift up to 25 pounds. Walk, bend, stand, and drive a vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
