Requirements

• Engineering in Training (EIT) certification required. Preference given to individuals with a PE.

• A bachelor’s or master’s Degree in civil engineering

• At least five years of transportation engineering experience, including designing Complete Streets

• Demonstrated success in independently managing projects or major project tasks

• A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with a transportation focus

• Specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design

• Detailed design experience for intersection and corridor wide improvements, including, but not limited to, meeting minimum ADA requirements.

• Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates.

• Able to independently develop and prepare concept-level design options and clearly articulate its impact on safety, operation, cost, implementation, etc.

• Proficiency in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation) and design software (Civil 3D, GEOPAK and/or InRoads)

• Keen interest in multimodal and active transportation design

It would be a plus if you have:

• Experience with traffic analysis software and signal design

• Experience with drainage design

• Experience working with CDOT and/or communities in the Front Range

• Experience with bicycle and pedestrian projects and related public outreach

• Experience in the various stages of marketing, including business development, proposal strategy and writing, and interviewing

About our Austin team:

Toole Design has a multi-year contract to provide full-time staff support to ATD’s Active Transportation and Street Design Division. Our Austin team is an integral part of ATD’s nationally recognized street design team to design and implement a variety of projects as part of the City’s $720 million 2016 Mobility Bond.   • A can-do teachable attitude.
  • An interest in streetscapes, urban plazas, greenways and trails, and multimodal transportation facilities issues and design.

  • Experience independently managing small- to mid-size projects and mentoring younger staff.
  • Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates.
  • Excellent task and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and strong writing skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3d and a working knowledge of MicroStation (preference given to individuals with MicroStation experience).
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Specific knowledge of roadway geometric design or streetscape design.

It would be a plus if you have:

  • Experience in transportation engineering.
  • A broad knowledge base in street design and urban multimodal planning.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation; experience with Geopak and InRoads desired but not required
  • Detailed design experience for intersection and corridor wide improvements, including, but not limited to, meeting minimum ADA and drainage requirements.
  • Specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (MUTCD and AASHTO)

Requirements

• The ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and partners through any medium or situation. Strong writing skills are a must.

• At least 3 years of active transportation, planning, urban design, or other related experience (consulting experience is preferred).

• At least 2 years of hands-on design experience

• A willingness to develop new techniques, lead projects in new practice areas, or oversee the use of new tools.

• A passion for pushing the boundaries of traditional landscape architecture by designing projects with an emphasis in active transportation

• The ability to present to employees, clients, agency staff, and professional organizations.

• Working knowledge of Microstation and Adobe Creative Suite are desirable.

• A professional license in Landscape Architecture or the ability to get licensed within 2 years is a plus, but is not required
