Requirements

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil/transportation engineering, urban design, landscape architecture, or related field

• 5+ years of transportation experience, with a demonstrated interest in developing construction documents

• Professional Engineering license in Oregon (or ability to obtain)

• Experience with Computer Automated Design (MicroStation or AutoCad)

• A broad knowledge base in civil engineering (transportation focus)

• Detailed design experience for intersection and corridor wide improvements, including, but not limited to, multimodal accommodations for all ages and abilities, meeting minimum ADA and drainage requirements.

• Specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (AASHTO and MUTCD)

• Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates

• Interest in multimodal and active transportation issues and design (specifically for bicycle, pedestrian, Safe Routes to School, and/or transit integration)

• Excellent task and time management skills

• Excellent communication skills

• Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications

Additional desired qualities include:

• Experience with bicycle, pedestrian, transit, and Safe Routes to School issues for all ages and abilities

• Demonstrated experience developing construction documents

• Knowledge of advanced multimodal roadway design and NACTO design guidance

About our Austin team:

Toole Design has a multi-year contract to provide full-time staff support to ATD’s Active Transportation and Street Design Division. Our Austin team is an integral part of ATD’s nationally recognized street design team to design and implement a variety of projects as part of the City’s $720 million 2016 Mobility Bond. The contract supports the Bikeways, Safe Routes to School, and Sidewalks bond programs, and Transit Speed & Reliability work in partnership with the Capital Metro Transportation Authority.

Austin is on the leading edge of multimodal transportation, and the Toole Design team is a key part of a strategy to double the rate of project design and implementation in support of the 2016 Mobility Bond and other growing program needs. Requirements

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil/transportation engineering, urban design, landscape architecture, or related field

• 5+ years of transportation experience, with a demonstrated interest in developing construction documents

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineer Intern (EI) designation

• Experience with Computer Automated Design (preferably MicroStation but AutoCad OK)

• A broad knowledge base in civil engineering (transportation focus)

• Detailed design experience for intersection and corridor wide improvements, including, but not limited to, multimodal accommodations for all ages and abilities, meeting minimum ADA and drainage requirements.

• Specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (AASHTO and MUTCD)

• Experience developing construction documents and cost estimates

• Familiarity with traffic engineering and modeling software (such as Synchro)

• Interest in multimodal and active transportation issues and design (specifically for bicycle, pedestrian, Safe Routes to School, and/or transit integration)

• Excellent task and time management skills

• Excellent communication skills

• Experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications

Additional desired qualities include:

• Professional Engineering license (Texas preferred)

• Experience with bicycle, pedestrian, transit, and Safe Routes to School issues for all ages and abilities

• Demonstrated experience developing construction documents

• Experience reviewing construction plans and providing constructive feedback

• Knowledge of advanced multimodal roadway design and NACTO design guidance

As a Landscape/Urban Designer, you will develop relationships with clients, mentor others, and lead exciting and challenging projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region and nationwide. Our projects are at all different scales, from national pedestrian and bicycle planning and design guidance for the Federal Highway Administration to State DOT and City Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plans. As a Landscape/Urban Designer, you’ll be an integral part of our planning and design projects focused on creating inclusive communities and making the travel experience better for all users. As a part of our landscape architecture practice, you’ll be an integral part of team and at the table with our clients, community members, planners, and engineers on projects from start to finish; working on stakeholder outreach and design workshops, master planning, concept plans, demonstration projects, 3D modeling, illustrative graphics, and construction documents. You will help clients and the public visualize projects as well as designing things that get built.

Requirements

• The ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and partners through any medium or situation. Strong writing skills are a must.

• At least 3 years of active transportation, planning, urban design, or other related experience (consulting experience is preferred).

• At least 2 years of hands-on design experience

• A willingness to develop new techniques, lead projects in new practice areas, or oversee the use of new tools.

• A passion for pushing the boundaries of traditional landscape architecture by designing projects with an emphasis in active transportation

• The ability to present to employees, clients, agency staff, and professional organizations.

• Working knowledge of Microstation and Adobe Creative Suite are desirable.

• A professional license in Landscape Architecture or the ability to get licensed within 2 years is a plus, but is not required
