StreetLight Data is seeking a Product Support Engineer to help our clients solve transportation problems using StreetLight InSight®, our SaaS on-demand platform. This team member will work closely with planners, modelers, and engineers, helping them put Big Data to work for transportation. 
 
The Product Support Engineer will provide comprehensive support to our customers to enable them to use StreetLight InSight® to its maximum potential, understand our methodologies, and trust our Metrics to address their mobility questions, all to ensure their highest possible satisfaction. This position reports to the Director, Support.
 
This position can be based in our Vancouver, BC office or remote within the Pacific or Mountain timezones within the US or Canada. We are currently asking all employees to work remotely during COVID for employee safety but plan to eventually return to working from offices post-COVID in some capacity. Therefore, we can be somewhat flexible on current geographic location.
 

Key Responsibilities:

    • Deliver a superior support experience to our customers with every interaction
    • Provide first-level and escalated technical support for users of the StreetLight InSight® platform

StreetLight Data is seeking a strong Data Engineer to be part of our growing Engineering team. This team member will work on processing data at scale, and productizing new analytics into the StreetLight InSight platform. This position reports to the Manager of Data Science.
 

Key Responsibilities:

    • Design and implement components within the StreetLight InSight data processing pipeline (from raw input files to optimized tables used for analyses)
    • Tune the StreetLight InSight processing pipeline for performance and scalability, and automate it to allow for hands-off operations

    • Design, implement, and maintain customer-facing features, including both frontend and backend components, in the StreetLight InSight SaaS web application and analytics serving pipeline

Product Manager, APIs & Massive Analytics

StreetLight Data is seeking a Product Manager to work with our data science, data engineering and web applications teams in two areas: massive analytics offerings and application programming interfaces for StreetLight’s best-in-class transportation data platform. A new product line, Massive Analytics refers to analyses run over large geographic regions using predefined geometries for various transportation metrics that provide measures of large scale transportation and related patterns such as Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) or Origin – Destination volumes. Reporting initially to the VP of Product, you will collaborate with our other product managers, engineering, marketing and sales to research, define, plan, build, release and drive successful sales and adoption of both new and existing data products for large geographies and the APIs for Streetlight InSight®, our end-user application as well as new APIs that will enable partners and customers to integrate StreetLight analytics into their own applications. 
 
This position requires strong product management experience in data products and APIs, along with expertise in analytics and statistical methods. A background in SaaS and/or transportation planning or related fields is a strong plus.
 
Candidates located in the San Francisco, CA region that can eventually work from our SF office are preferred.
 

Key Responsibilities:

    • Understand the StreetLight organization, business objectives and growth plans, product constituencies, and product management needs
    • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the transportation planning and operations industry through self-learning, support of our internal industry experts and proactive interaction with our sales team, prospects and customers to support successfully developing product requirements that meet end customer needs
    • Develop a working understanding of development process across the platform and product offerings, including data science / data engineering and the feature commercialization processes at StreetLight including system architecture, data pipelines, algorithms and machine learning techniques, web application back-end and front end and APIs
    • Develop and maintain an intimate understanding of our features and functionality in the data platform and end-user products including underlying data, transportation metrics, validation processes, calibration techniques, visualizations and APIs, and their applications in end customer use cases 
    • Understand the customer requirements and market opportunities for StreetLight in general and then specifically for the API offerings (including programming language support, application integration support, and documentation requirements) and the massive analytic products, including visualization requirements, in order to build the business cases for product improvements and new product development. This includes proactively gathering and synthesizing information from internal and external sources about market trends, competitive offerings, prospect and customer unmet needs, product requirements to meet those needs and ability and willingness to pay as inputs to the product and business planning process.
    • Collaborate effectively within the Product Team and across Engineering to support product release planning, schedules, and near and long-term roadmaps for your area of responsibility in alignment with all StreetLight Data product offerings. Work with the Data Science and Data Engineering teams to scope, estimate, and plan the implementation of the product and coordinate its schedule with other deliverables.  Participate in maintaining the appropriate level of transparency and education on current and future product plans for Executives, Sales, Customer Success, Support and others with a need to know.
    • Communicate and collaborate closely with Product Marketing, Learning Services, Marketing, Solution Engineers, Sales and our Executive Team to disseminate the product knowledge, plans and statuses that ensure any new product education or training, marketing materials or promotions, or prospect and/or customer communications can be completed in an effective, timely and efficient manner 
    • Provide pre and post sales support to API customers / partners as needed during initial ramp phase of API sales and usage
    • Travel from time to time to meet with prospects, customers, attend trade shows or visit other StreetLight Data offices as needed

Skills & Qualifications

    • BS or equivalent in Computer Science or related engineering field required
    • 2 or more years of professional experience as a software developer working with APIs is required; experience building APIs for internal or external use is a plus
    • 5 or more years of product management experience in a commercial software company focused on APIs and big data is required delivering data products into the commercial/governmental market. Experience working with data analytics and visualization tools such as Tableau, Qlik or equivalent is strongly preferred. Experience in mobility, or navigation products is preferred. Experience in a SaaS product environment that utilizes machine learning in a quantitative field is a plus. Experience in the field of transportation planning is a strong plus
    • Proven ability to develop product specifications for APIs including descriptions of developer requirements driven by understanding of customer and partner applications including understanding which programming languages need to be supported, and what requirements target applications have.

Data Scientist – Skunkworks

StreetLight Data is launching a special early stage product team that will do early market, product, and algorithmic/data science research and development, including mockups, trials, and pilots. This small team, reporting directly to the CEO, will help push StreetLight and transportation data and industry to the next generation of tools, use cases, and smart policy making and transportation systems. We are looking for a creative, collaborative, and self-driven data scientist with excellent data visualization skills, to power this work.
 
This position requires strong data science and structuring skills as well as a strong ability to design visualizations and dashboards that convey insights from data. This job reports to the PM of early stage products and will collaborate heavily with other data scientists at StreetLight as well as the CEO.
 
Location: We are flexible on the location of this position – it could be in any one of our three offices (San Francisco, CA, Richmond, VA, or Vancouver, BC) – or remote with the US or Canada.
 

Key Responsibilities

    • Design algorithms to infer key transportation patterns from various data sources, both StreetLight’s own data and metrics as well as third party data.
    • Collaborate with the PM of Skunkworks to turn high-level specifications into clean, accurate analytics and collaborate to convey them via mock-ups, using third party data visualization tools like Tableau / Looker / Etc.
    • Collaborate with the PM of Skunkworks and teammates to share insights about what could be learned from this data, to help them look for applications.
    • Research academic and other third party sources to design methods to create validation reports for new metrics. This includes developing expertise with important public data sets such as the census, NHTS, economic survey, ACS, etc.
    • Keep excellent documentation of code and research, to facilitate handing off to productization teams when applicable
    • Research and implement suitable strategies (from neural networks to a simple SQL filter, if that’s more actionable) for solving data science problems
    • Find and build real-world data sets for training various models and doing quality checks
    • Define and implement customized and/or cutting-edge solutions with pilot customers

Qualification & Skills

    • BS / MS in Mathematics, Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar discipline
    • Deep (5+ years) expertise and experience in exploratory data analysis and statistics, using tools such as R,  Python, and PostgreSQL
    • Deep (5+ years) expertise and skills in data visualization and business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Looker, PowerBI, Tellius, Sisence, or Thoughtspot, etc.
    • 2+ years of experience in SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), and good understanding of relational concepts
    • Experience working with very large datasets in a SQL environment
    • Basic understanding of techniques in data science (machine learning algorithms, forecasting, regression analysis, etc.)
    • Strong data analysis skills, knowing what can / cannot be possible
