DESCRIPTION
About Masabi:
At Masabi, we are helping to make cities better places to live, work and visit, by enabling seamless, frictionless journeys on public transport systems. We are a SaaS company, developing a ticketing (fare payments) platform that allows people to buy and present tickets for public transport on their mobile phones or travel simply by tapping a bank card.
We believe a new fare payments system allowing passengers to just tap and ride, without needing to buy a ticket or understand fares, should be available to every passenger and every transit agency around the globe, without prohibitive costs or taking years to deliver, helping people move seamlessly from A to B.
Our Justride platform has been named Ticketing Technology of the Year 2019/2020 and is deployed in over 100 locations around the world, including New York, London, Boston, Las Vegas, Bucharest, Valencia, The Hague, Los Angeles, Sydney and many more. With an exciting industry-first mobile ticketing SDK, we are partnering with companies like Uber, Lyft, Transit, Moovit and many more to enable the purchase of public transport tickets within leading mobility applications.
Masabi has offices in London, New York, Denver and Cluj, and investors include Mastercard, Shell and Keolis.
Come join us on this exciting ride as we build the transit technology ecosystem of tomorrow.
The Role
Masabi is looking for a Java / Kotlin developer to join our expanding Hub team.
The Hub team is responsible for systems and infrastructure powering key components of our Justride platform such as Customer Services, Partner & Retail portals, Ticket Vending Machines and others.
As a member of this team you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of products, all of which are highly visible to our customers. You will play a big part in defining and shaping the solutions that we implement, to ensure not only that our customers get a great experience, but also that we receive enough feedback about our implementation to iterate and improve upon it.
About you:
You will have solid core Java and object-oriented skills, and experience of implementing high quality high performance software. Kotlin and/or AWS experience would be a bonus. You should ideally have some DevOps environment exposure (managing Linux servers, interacting with AWS, understanding Docker, etc) as we are moving towards managing our own infrastructure via Terraform.
A desire to learn and eagerness to contribute are very important. There are plenty of features that are not yet designed, let alone implemented, so you must be keen to get stuck in and make your mark.
You don’t have to know Kotlin to apply for this role as the team are more than happy to help you pick it up, but an interest in Kotlin will be beneficial.
Our Stack:
Kotlin / Java 11 / Groovy (Spock)
DropWizard / Jersey / MySQL
AWS EC2 / AWS Lambda / Terraform
Git / Gradle / Maven / Bamboo / Docker / Puppet

The Role:
Masabi is looking for a passionate Frontend Developer to join our growing Hub team!
The Hub is the Justride platform’s back office portal that serves some of the biggest transportation companies in the world. We provide business-critical tools that have a significant impact on daily commuters across five continents. Our day involves analysing and visualising operational data, managing tariffs/fares, customer accounts, monitoring and configuring remote devices, and many more.
The Hub is a multi-tenanted web app serving more than 70 (and counting) transportation agencies and our team’s mission is to build resilient, performant, and intuitive user interfaces that are flexible to the different needs of these agencies. We work very closely with other teams in the company in order to find the best way to use their data and APIs to solve complex problems for our customers. We have adopted a design system and internal component library (known as Particle) to make solving these problems faster, easier, and more consistent.
As a Frontend developer you will be working on these core user interfaces as well as the component library that drives them. We use Vue for all new feature development; there are some features still in AngularJS but they get moved over to Vue as we work on them. For data visualisation, we make heavy use of both D3.js and our data team’s internal aggregation APIs.
Some features you can expect to work on in the near future include data analysis and visualisation tools, travel card ordering and configuration tools, and many more.
About you:
You should have excellent core Javascript skills and a user-centric, problem-solving mindset. You should love creating intuitive and beautiful UIs, and enjoy writing clean, DRY code. Vue or similar framework experience would be beneficial, but not essential. D3 or other visualisation library experience would also be a plus.
Our Stack:
- Javascript (ES6), CSS (SCSS), HTML5
- Vue, D3.js
- Mocha, Chai, Sinon, Jest
- Git, Webpack
Day-to-Day
- Collaborate with designers and product managers to prototype new features and UI improvements
- Add to and improve shared components within our existing Design System
- Work closely with other teams within Masabi to transform product requirements into APIs and data sources
- Create performant, beautiful and intuitive user-experiences to help our customers ask questions of their data
- Maintain high coding standards through code reviews and unit/integration tests

About Us
At Masabi, we are helping to make cities better places to live, work and visit, by enabling seamless, frictionless journeys on public transport systems. We are a SaaS company, developing a fare collection and ticketing platform that allows commuters to buy and present tickets for public transport on their mobile phones or simply by tapping a bank card to travel.
Proving ourselves as true innovators and industry leaders, we launched the Justride SDK – a first for public transit – allowing urban mobility providers, like journey planners (Transit) and bike and ride-sharing services (Uber), to integrate our market-leading mobile ticketing platform into their applications, connecting services together for a seamless user experience.
Our platform, Justride, is deployed in numerous cities around the globe, including New York, London, Boston, Las Vegas, The Hague, Los Angeles, Sydney and many more, with an exciting industry-first SDK deployment with Uber in Denver enabling the purchase of public transport tickets right within the Uber application.
Come join us on this exciting ride as we build the transit technology ecosystem of tomorrow.
The role
Taking payment is a significant part of our Justride platform. Our apps accept credit card payments, and our on-vehicle readers will accept contactless bank cards for tap and ride travel.
We are looking for a Product Manager with experience of eCommerce payment systems to join the existing Product team of seven. You will work with the engineering team, QA experts, project managers, UX designers and the other Product Managers to build an integrated best in class product experience. Although the immediate focus of this role is eCommerce payment, we expect all Product Managers to have a broad understanding of the full Justride platform and to contribute across its breadth.
This role will start fully remote, and whilst it could be based in either our London or Cluj offices longer term it will involve working with teams in multiple locations and for the right candidate could remain fully remote.
Responsibilities include:
- Gain a deep understanding of the problem space through research, including through highly technical documentation, and regular interaction with customers and partners.
- Define and frame those problems for the team, finding ways to abstract out the differences between multiple providers (card schemes, payment gateways etc) within a common platform.
- Engage closely with software engineers to help identify appropriate solutions and test outcomes.
- Understand the constraints and outcomes required to deliver a successful product and communicate this clearly.
- Work with colleagues across Masabi to define and deliver the product roadmap.
- Prioritise the competing demands for product features, customer requests and technology improvements.
What we are looking for:
- Strong preference for experience working with contactless POS transactions and EMV protocols; alternatively, demonstrable experience understanding complex systems from scratch.
- Have a sound working knowledge of eCommerce payment technologies and processes, including familiarity with payment gateways.
- Experience in business analysis and technical requirements gathering, and presenting those requirements in a clear way to others.
- Ideally, some experience working directly with a team of software engineers in an agile environment.
- Empathy for the users of systems.
- Ability to deal with multiple external stakeholder partners, working to better understand industry specifications, gain certifications and handle anything else that arises.
- Be comfortable working in a fully remote model (at least until after Covid), part of a distributed Product team.
What you will learn in this role:
- You will build on your product management experience in an innovative and disruptive global business.
- You will learn how to work closely with development teams in an agile environment.
- You will have the opportunity to work on both software and hardware products that impact millions of people around the world.
- You will become intimately aware of the various ways different card schemes handle transactions in various contexts.

- You will coordinate with the Hardware Deployments team and Global Services team project managers to ensure shipments are consistent with customer requirements and support on-time deliveries.
- You will maintain detailed inventory management of all Masabi production hardware using an inventory management tool.
- You will generate inventory reports and analysis as required. These reports may include but are not limited to forecasting, supply chain, and inventory level optimization analysis.
