DESCRIPTION

About Masabi:

At Masabi, we are helping to make cities better places to live, work and visit, by enabling seamless, frictionless journeys on public transport systems. We are a SaaS company, developing a ticketing (fare payments) platform that allows people to buy and present tickets for public transport on their mobile phones or travel simply by tapping a bank card.

We believe that fare payment systems that remove the complexity of riding on public transit are an essential tool for agencies and that this technology should be available to every passenger and every transit agency around the globe, without prohibitive costs or taking years to deliver, helping people move seamlessly from A to B.

Our Justride platform has been named Ticketing Technology of the Year 2019/2020 and is deployed in over 100 locations around the world, including New York, London, Boston, Las Vegas, Valencia, The Hague, Los Angeles, Sydney and many more. With an exciting industry-first mobile ticketing SDK, we are partnering with companies like Uber, Lyft, Transit, Moovit and many more to enable the purchase of public transport tickets within leading mobility applications.

Come join us on this exciting ride as we build the transit technology ecosystem of tomorrow.

The Role

Masabi is looking for Java / Kotlin engineers to join our engineering team. Our team operates as three tribes, with each tribe containing one or more pods, and each pod being a team of around 5 engineers working as an agile unit.

You will play a big part in defining and shaping the solutions that we implement, to ensure not only that our customers get a great experience, but also that we receive enough feedback about our implementation to iterate and improve upon it.

Location

This role is available in the UK, either in a fully remote model with occasional travel to our London office, or in a hybrid model where you will be allowed to come into our London office as many days per week as you require.

About you

  • Communication and collaboration skills. You understand how your communication style can impact other people and you enjoy being part of a team.
  • A desire to learn and eagerness to contribute are very important to you. There are plenty of features that are not yet designed, let alone implemented, so you must be keen to get stuck in and make your mark.
  • You should take a holistic approach to development, caring about the entire Masabi platform as well as the core components owned by your pod.
  • You will have experience working with either Java or Kotlin, building backend web services.
  • You should have a bias for action and be willing to take calculated risks where appropriate.

Our Tech

We use a variety of technologies across our tribes and pods, including but not limited to:

  • Kotlin / Java 11 / Groovy (Spock)
  • DropWizard / Spring Boot
  • AWS Lambda / Fargate / EC2 / S3 / SQS / DynamoDb / RDS
  • Terraform / Puppet
  • Git / Gradle / Maven
  • OpenAPI

We don’t expect you to know everything on the list, you’ll be given the opportunity to learn anything which is new to you.

We practice TDD, CI and our deployment cycles range from multiple times per day up to fortnightly depending on the pod.

The Team

The Business Development team are the front-line market representatives of Masabi, building out the pipeline of prospective opportunities and closing those opportunities to bring in new business for the company. The team is equal parts, sales, consultation, analysis, and go-to-market strategy. The North American team is comprised of two BD managers and is led by the VP of Business Development.

The Role

To identify, engage, and liaise with transit agencies and prospective partners across the North American market, building a pipeline of qualified individuals at target accounts and partners who are interested in the Justride platform and qualifying those leads for the BD team to engage with further. It’s the job of the BDR to help ensure that our BD team is spending their time wisely and working on the most productive leads.

BDR’s will be responsible for sourcing and making the first contact with most of our potential customers, qualifying incoming leads, helping those customers through their initial queries (which could even include product demos or presentations), prioritizing leads and then scheduling face to face meetings (or conference calls) between the senior BD team members and the potential client.

Additional responsibilities include attending sales conferences, managing conference and event logistics for the BD team, and assisting in collateral creation for marketing purposes.

Generally, our relationship with our clients is one of a trusted technology partner which means that we avoid common hard-selling tactics and instead choose a longer-term, consultative approach, helping our clients to fully understand how mobile ticketing can unlock value for their organization and riders alike.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing, this role will be critical to continued growth at Masabi, building on our existing success in the North American market and leading robust expansion into transportation agencies across all modes of transit.

Who are we looking for?

This role is perfect for someone looking to break into business development. A significant part of the role requires engaging with prospective accounts and partners via email or phone. The BDR will be responsible for lead generation, unlocking accounts and partners that are identified as key strategic priorities and we are looking for someone resourceful, who isn’t afraid of persevering with respect to finding the right decision-makers.

This individual has to be highly organized as they will be responsible for event coordination for the BD team and bid submissions. We value self-starting, “people-people” who are able to build rapport quickly and create lasting relationships with clients and peers alike. Finally, this person should be analytical and motivated to provide value in ways beyond what is asked of them.

Our ideal candidate would be someone who is passionate about the future of transportation and mobility and who is excited to deliver our technology to new customers and riders in cities large and small.

What you will learn

  • Becoming proficient in the full sales lifecycle – objection handling, product and pitch.
  • How to source leads that will turn into our next clients.
  • Client-facing sales experience, which will include skills in presenting, pitching, and communicating face to face, on the phone and via email.
  • How to effectively sell technology SaaS products in a collaborative, consultative manner.
  • This is a cross-functional role, giving you the opportunity to interface with different departments of our organization (e.g. Bids, Marketing, Product etc.). Therefore it will present opportunities for growth not just within the Business Development team, but other areas as well.
  • Get an acute understanding of the transit and mobility services sectors.

About Us

At Masabi, we are helping to make cities better places to live, work and visit, by enabling seamless, frictionless journeys on public transport systems. We are a SaaS company, developing a fare collection and ticketing platform that allows commuters to buy and present tickets for public transport on their mobile phones or simply by tapping a bank card to travel.

Proving ourselves as true innovators and industry leaders, we launched the Justride SDK – a first for public transit – allowing urban mobility providers, like journey planners (Transit) and bike and ride-sharing services (Uber), to integrate our market-leading mobile ticketing platform into their applications, connecting services together for a seamless user experience.

Our platform, Justride, is deployed in numerous cities around the globe, including New York, London, Boston, Las Vegas, The Hague, Los Angeles, Sydney and many more, with an exciting industry-first SDK deployment with Uber in Denver enabling the purchase of public transport tickets right within the Uber application.

Come join us on this exciting ride as we build the transit technology ecosystem of tomorrow.

The Role

You will be working alongside a technically diverse team who have a range of expertise you can learn from.

Our servers need to be extremely reliable – rush hours in big cities depend on them – and performance under heavy load is critical. Software on devices must be reliable and, in a constrained environment, equally performant.

You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of products, all of which are highly visible to our customers.

About you

  • Have demonstrable experience using core languages to the business including Go C/C++ and Python to write user space applications in Linux environments.
  • History of expertise in Yocto build system or equivalent (OpenWRT, buildroot, etc..)
  • Have understanding of the fundamentals in maintaining board support, and upgrade mechanisms for devices deployed in the field.
  • You will have the opportunity to also get involved with maintaining our backend services that support our embedded devices, meaning an interest in expanding your experience in languages such as Kotlin/Java8+ excites you.
  • Value collaboration, as you will learn how to excel as a team member by working closely not just with peers but also colleagues from different areas of the business.
  • You will adapt to implement high-quality, high-performance software whether it be destined for a cloud server, serverless or on a constrained device.

Our Stack

  • Go / Python / C++ / Java 8+ / Kotlin
  • Bitbucket / Bamboo / CMake / Yocto (dunfell+) / Gradle / Docker / Linux (5.X+)
  • Cloud hosted, Terraform/Puppet managed, PCI-DSS certified platform infrastructure
  • AWS services used include Fargate, IoT, S3, SQS, Lambda, RDS, EC2, ElastiCache

Our Justride platform is deployed in cities around the globe, including New York, London, Boston, Las Vegas, The Hague, Los Angeles and many more, with an exciting industry-first SDK deployment partnering with Uber in North America which enables the purchase of public transport tickets right within the Uber application.

We believe a new Fare Payments system allowing passengers to just tap and ride, without needing to buy a ticket or understand fares, should be available to every passenger and every transit agency around the globe, without prohibitive costs or taking years to deliver, helping people move seamlessly from A to B.

Come join us on this exciting ride as we build the transit technology ecosystem of tomorrow.

The Role:

As a Sales Engineer you will combine technology expertise, business acumen and strong communication skills to support transit agencies, either directly contracting with Masabi or signing up via reseller partners, to roll out targeted solutions to their individual fare collection needs. This will involve architecting solutions that map their requirements onto appropriate configuration for existing SaaS platform functionality, alongside platform extensions using existing APIs, and feeding back market requirements to the Product team to highlight gaps in our product offering.

Engagement will begin with up-front conversations supporting the Business Development team and solutions engineering. It will continue through supporting written responses to RFPs and preparing pitch decks and demonstrations to win the business, and carry on right through to successful deployment supporting any integrations as required.

This role will require you to be adept at building relationships with stakeholders at all levels including internal and external executives, bringing these diverse groups along with you as you articulate and roll out solutions and their related strategies. You will need to define technical solutions to customer problems built on top of existing RESTful JSON APIs and Android+iOS SDKs, and be sufficiently technical to support partner staff integrating into those APIs. It will involve working with both Spanish and English speaking third parties, and it requires a high level of fluency in both languages during technical discussions.

Location:

This is a remote-based role. However, due to time zone constraints, only candidates within Europe will be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with stakeholders across the external Masabi ecosystem to drive and nurture agency and partner deployments through solutions design, integration support, launch readiness and post-launch support.
  • Taking ownership of any issues derived from the above and guiding their resolution.
  • Applying lean practices to our ways of working and assessing technical solutions in alignment with overall engineering strategy.

 Day-to-Day:

  • Work with Bids and Business Development teams to assess the suitability of our platform to meet customer requirements.
  • Work with Product and Engineering teams to communicate areas in which development is required for those needs.
  • Support scoping and solutions design with a view to provide the broadest possible business value.
  • Help to create and maintain training materials and platform documentation that will be used to onboard and support agencies and partners.
  • Understand our partner and customers’ environment and requirements, identifying opportunities and challenges, and effectively communicating these back to the wider Product organisation for inclusion in the platform roadmap.
  • Support customer presentations, written submissions or events as needed by client-facing teams, including facilitating product demos and demo configurations.
  • Support active integrations and partnerships, guiding integrations with external development teams and identifying and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that technical solutions are suitable within our integration ecosystem (e.g with Uber, Google, Mastercard, Amazon, etc.).

About you:

  • Comfortable working in a sales environment, experienced at presenting or demonstrating solutions and capabilities to prospective customers and partners.
  • Strong ability and experience in identifying customer requirements and mapping them to existing product capabilities or future development; understand complex ideas and articulate them in a straightforward way to audiences at different levels.
  • Experienced in developer outreach and advocacy in complex environments with diverse technology stacks within a global B2B or B2B2C ecosystem.
  • Experience working with REST-based JSON APIs and mobile development SDKs written in Objective-C, Swift, Java or Kotlin.
  • At home working with data, logging and tracing tools to diagnose issues and monitor performance, such as Elastic, Logstash, Kibana and relational databases.
  • Experienced at ensuring appropriate technical solutions are deployed for scalable, distributed systems with a consistent ability to balance short term and long term technical considerations.
  • Enjoys taking ownership of solutions, handling ambiguity, making good priority calls that take into account competing views and concerns and always seeking to drive and support the simplest and most customer-focused outcomes.
  • Deals effectively with multiple concurrent demands on your time that switch your focus between tactical and strategic items with ease.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in a customer-facing, pre-sales, solutions engineering, sales engineering, or field engineering role is a plus.
  • Transport experience is desirable but not essential.

Come join us on this exciting ride as we build the transit technology ecosystem of tomorrow.

Some of our benefits:

  • Competitive salary package
  • 25 days of holiday per year plus the option to buy another 5 days pro-rated
  • Private Healthcare via AXA including pre-existing conditions and mental health
