Chris Smith (2010 – 2011)
Chris Smith joined the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) in 2021 as the Vice President Transportation, responsible for executing the association’s transportation activities and policy objectives for its over 1400 international members engaged in the daily lifting, rigging, and transport of industrial equipment that powers every sector of the economy.
Prior to joining SC&RA, he was the Director of Policy, Communications, and Legislative Affairs for the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation leading all external relations activities including advocacy, public relations, and marketing. Chris also spent 8 years in Washington, D.C. with AASHTO, first managing then leading the association’s multi-modal freight transportation programs, including Phases I and II of the oversize/overweight permit harmonization efforts with SC&RA.
Chris began his career in advocacy and communications in his home state of Florida, serving first for the Florida Legislature during graduate school at Florida State University, and then for Vice President Public Policy at the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce in his hometown.
He resides in Chesterfield, Virginia with his wife Suzanne and children Grant, Greyson, and Luke.
