YPT Boston Board, 2016-2017

Our chapter was formed in September 2010 to enhance professional development among young transportation practitioners and future leaders. YPT was formed in 2007 as a national organization, headquartered in Washington, D.C. and has since grown to include chapters in many large cities in the U.S. Our goals are threefold:

1. Professional Development: Provide a regular series of seminars from leading individuals or teams in the transportation field.

2. Fellowship: Provide an ongoing forum for mutual support and interaction between young transportation professionals, especially for those starting their careers.

3. Networking: Provide networking opportunities and seminars to help young professionals advance their careers and share innovative ideas.

What We Do

Networking Events – These events are a great way to get to know your fellow transportation professionals and students in a relaxed, informal setting. We meet at various bars and restaurants in the Boston area. Networking events generally feature an invited Distinguished Guest, a leader in the transportation field. Boston events are free, unless otherwise noted.

Leadership Seminars – These seminars are a great way to meet and interact with distinguished leaders in the transportation field. Participants are encouraged to ask questions about the speakers’ work, career path, and for advice to today’s young professionals. Speakers invited to attend include prominent transportation practitioners and leaders.

Technical Tours – These tours offer members the opportunity to explore transportation in practice.

Board Meetings – These are regularly scheduled meetings of the YPT Boston Board of Directors. At these meetings, we discuss the group’s goals and strategies and plan events. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month. Check out agendas and minutes here.

Where: MAPC, 60 Temple Place, Boston, MA 02111

Please join YPT Boston for our next Lunch and Learn on the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Replacement Project presented by Conor Murphy from McMahon Associates.

This past summer, MassDOT and its Design-Build Project Team completed an effort to replace half of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge over the period of three weeks in an extreme employment of Accelerated Bridge Construction. This endeavor involved the coordination between stakeholders from all over the state regarding design, construction, and traffic control. Several challenges were presented to keep people moving throughout the project area along Commonwealth Avenue and the Mass Pike using all modes of transportation, including walking, biking, driving, andriding the train. Come to learn about the challenges that faced the designers and how the design held up when the bridge came down!

There is no cost for the event. Free appetizers will be provided!  For drinks and additional food, standard bar and table service will also be available.  Form your own teams (up to six people), or we will help you form a team when you arrive. Free food, prizes, great people.  What a great opportunity to meet members of YPT Boston.  Look forward to seeing you there!

YPT Boston-DC Exchange Program

YPT-DC and YPT-Boston will have an exchange program to share ideas between the two oldest YPT chapters. Five YPT-Boston members will go to Washington, DC on January 5-7, 2018. Participants will meet with members of the DC chapter on Friday evening, attend TransportationCamp DC on Saturday, and meet again Sunday morning to exchange ideas about how to make each other’s chapters better. In April, YPT-DC members will come to Boston during the weekend of TransportationCamp New England (date TBD) for a similar weekend here.

Only five YPT-Boston members will be selected for this opportunity, which offers deeply subsidized airfare, a chance to see a new city, and the opportunity to create a national network.

Responses are due by 5:00pm on November 15, 2017.
