Come join YPT Pittsburgh for an exciting tour of the Autonomous Vehicle Lab on CMU’s campus!

 

Carnegie Mellon University, the birthplace of Autonomous Vehicles, has over 30 years of experience with self-driving car technology.  They are opening their doors to YPT Members to tour the lab and get a closer look at their autonomous vehicles.

 

The tour will start at 10 A.M. sharp outside of Newell-Simon Hall (see circled area in attached map for meeting location).  Suggested parking locations are the East Campus Garage (circled in attached map) or the lots for the Carnegie Museum at the intersection of Forbes and Craig.

YPT Networking Event Social at Sienna Mercato! 

YPT will be hosting a networking event social at Sienna Mercato to welcome all YPT Members and YPT Friends from around the world who are visiting Pittsburgh. Friends and members of YPT (both local and out-of-towners) are invited to meet and mingle at Il Tetto, the rooftop beer garden at Sienna Mercato. Come get to know your fellow transportation professionals and students while surrounded by downtown Pittsburgh’s skyline! The event will be held on Friday, May 20 at 5:30 PM-7:30 PM and will feature free light appetizers and a cash bar.

Friends of the Riverfront  Volunteer Event- Saturday, April 16,2016

On April 16, YPT Pittsburgh is partnering with Friends of the Riverfront and CDM Smith to plant trees along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Come join us as we restore and revitalize Pittsburgh’s riverfronts! Drinks and snacks will be provided by CDM Smith.

The work site is located along River Avenue on the North Side, approximately a half mile north of Veterans Bridge and a short distance up the road from Heinz Lofts. (Google Map) Parking may be limited near the actual work site, so participants should plan to allow some extra time to find parking and walk to the site.

Friends of the Riverfront Cleanup – June 2014

YPT spent a morning with Friends of the Riverfront, volunteering for a clean up day.  A special thanks to all those who participated!

 SR 28 Event – May 15, 2014

The SR 28 Project and Site Tour was held on May 15, 2014 at Red Fin Blues.  The event included networking and a personal session with Greg Cerminara, Vice President of Michael Baker Jr., Inc., PennDOT’s design consultant, who presented the design and construction complexities of the Route 28 project and shared the exciting features soon to be unveiled.  Greg has served as the consultant manager on this project since 2004 and is currently the Pittsburgh Transportation Group Principal at Michael Baker Jr., Inc.

PennDOT’s concerted efforts to upgrade the two-mile section of Route 28 between Millvale and Chestnut Street in Pittsburgh are steadily moving toward completion.  More than $100 million in construction funds have been invested into this essential link to Pittsburgh transforming it into a top-notch transportation facility.  The community has travelled this passage since the early 1800s and it now services 60,000 daily commuters.  The last of five construction contracts is currently underway to complete the much needed capacity, safety and geometric improvements.

Young Member Joint Social was held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Steel Cactus in Shadyside.  YPT joined with other local young professionals for one of the largest networking events of the year.

On January 23, 2014, Stan Caldwell, Deputy Executive Director of the T-SET University Transportation Center (UTC) and Associate Director of the Traffic21 Initiative, presented upon Autonomous Vehicles.  The presentation and social hour to follow was held at Fuel & Fuddle in Oakland.

FALL HAPPY HOUR

YPT Pittsburgh held a free happy hour for members and friends at SoHo on the North Shore on Thursday, November 14, 2013, 5:30-7:30 pm.  Members and friends enjoyed an evening of networking with the young professionals within the transportation communities.

TRANSIT-ORIENTED DRINKS

A Transit-Oriented Drinks happy hour made its way through Pittsburgh on July 17th, 2013.  The featured stops included NoLa on the Square, Buckhead Saloon (Station Square), and Shiloh Grill.  Thr group used multimodal transporation from one event spot to the next.  Special guests for the evening included Chris Sandvig, Regional Policy Director, Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group’s GoBurgh Initiative and Breen Masciotra, Regional Outreach Director, Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group’s GoBurgh Initiative.  A special thanks to all our members and friends that came to the FREE event!

An Evening with David Wohlwill, AICP, Port Authority of Allegheny County

On May 1, David Wohlwill joined YPT Pittsburgh to discuss the Port Authority’s current Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) initiative in Pittsburgh.  The event was held at Fuel & Fuddle in Oakland and sparked a conversation on the options and improvements that BRT can bring to the Downtown-Oakland-East End corridor.

YPT co-hosted a great opportunity for networking with the Association for Bridge Construction and Design on Thursday, March 21st, held at the Four Points Sheraton North in Cranberry, sponsored by CDM Smith.

Louis Ruzzi, P.E., of PennDOT was the guest speaker.

YPT joined AASHTO for their Trade Fair Reception at the Westin on November 16, 2012 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm and hosted a social hour to follow for young professionals at August Henry’s.  This event was open to those attending the AASHTO conference and additional members or friends of YPT.
