|Position for Nomination||Chair|
As an engineer who has been working in the industry and actively involved in numerous professional associations, William is passionate about transportation and has wanted to share his passion with others. This has driven William’s studies and career, leading to his current role as a system engineer within TransLink’s Compass implementation team.
To promote the transportation industry and to engage members of the profession in diverse and meaningful events, William spearheaded the effort to establish the Young Professionals Transportation chapter in Vancouver, the first chapter established outside the United States of America. Through the past two years, William has led the development of the chapter, not only building membership and good rapport for the group, but also delivering high-quality events that have since left a positive impression on all those who’ve attended.
With Vancouver being a leader in progressiveness and innovation, William envisions YPT Vancouver to be one of the foremost chapters in YPT International. William aims to achieve this by providing unique transportation-related technical tours and seminars broadly accessible to YPT members. In the near future, these events will include tours of the Compass test lab and the tunnel for the Evergreen Line, and debates and panel sessions on timely topics that concern all residents of Greater Vancouver, such as transportation funding and rapid transit projects. Ultimately, William sees YPT Vancouver as the organization that delivers engaging and relevant transportation events that are highly-anticipated by people of all ages in all professions.
To this end, William is running for chair so that he could continue building YPT Vancouver into an organization where its members can expect opportunities to network, attend technical tours, and participate in professional development. Most importantly, William wants everyone, members and friends alike, to have fun at YPT events.
