Name: Eric Tam
Position for Nomination: Treasurer / Vice-chair for Administration
With a keen eye for transportation, I grew up watching traffic signals and railroads with great curiosity. Now with some experience under my belt as a Traffic Engineer EIT, I am evermore driven to understand transportation infrastructure and its social impact.
As a driven young professional in the transportation industry with complementary experience, and 1.5 years of volunteer work with the YPT Vancouver leadership team including in a Sponsorship Coordinator role, I am running for the YPT Vancouver Board of Directors as either Treasurer or Secretary, aiming to better support YPT Vancouver in a formalized role.
I have experience both with handling funds as a volunteer cashier for my local library, and collecting funds as team captain for recreational sports teams. I am also familiar with maintaining balance sheets, including the calculation of revenues and expenditures as an example. Furthermore, I do my own taxes each year – a telltale sign that I keep accurate financial records and am well-versed in financial matters.
I was able to keep accurate minutes during a large ($200 million) construction project which involved multiple disciplines and varying levels of technical discussion. I excel at using Microsoft Word, which will help me efficiently document Chapter Board meeting decisions.
In addition, my interest and experience extends to computers. I have worked at an IT Help Desk closely with professionals from a wide range of backgrounds to deliver seminars. As technical difficulties inevitably arose, I was able to solve many of the computer or A/V problems.
With my passion and various experiences including as YPT Vancouver volunteer, I hope to continue to assist the organization’s efforts in advancing and developing fellow young professionals in the transportation field as either Treasurer or Secretary.
